Full Description
The Gibson Les Paul Junior Tribute is a no-nonsense workhorse. Everything about it from the dog ear P-90 to a utilitarian set of controls and set neck all to serve their purpose. The lack of frills means there is far less to go wrong, it doesn?t mind if you are a little heavy-handed or sweating all over it ? just wipe it down. A staple in rock clubs, for sure but its reach extended way beyond and into the hands of Bob Marley and John Lennon ? great for what was originally a ?student? guitar.
Solid Tone Machine
The Les Paul Junior, marketed at students was not really given or expected to get respect but here we are decades later looking at a tribute to it. It very quickly gained recognition and was picked up by professional musicians who praised its simplicity and typical high-quality Gibson construction. Surface mounting the dog ear P-90 lead to increased output and a loud midrange ‘growl’ and treble ‘snap’ that differentiated it from anything else on the market at the time. Quickly it took on a life of its own, becoming a staple of rock ‘n roll and made its footprint in history.
Unmistakable Sonic Signature
Used by plenty of punk bands, its reputation for taking a beating was part of the reason it was so revered. More importantly, The Les Paul Junior's P-90 pushed through a valve amp has a character that’s all its own. You may be familiar with terms like ‘bark’, and ‘snarl’ in conjunction with the Junior, but it’s certainly is no mutt, and not something you could easily put down.
Wraparound Bridge
The wraparound bridge is synonymous with Les Paul Juniors. There for a few reasons beyond its original economic measures, the soft break angle is great, how many times have your strings snapped at the bridge? Not an issue here. Considered throatier with a healthy midrange due to the string wrapped towards the nut, the pairing with a single P-90 becomes obvious because it emphasises those characteristics, beautifully.
Hardy and Practical
Made from a slab of mahogany with no weight relief in a Worn Cherry finish, the Junior is both simple and smart. It isn’t exactly the kind of guitar that puts stock in fancy cosmetics – the focus is as a consistent and reliable tone machine. As far as tone shaping goes, you get a single volume and tone control, again it isn’t about being complicated. It's a charming and practical instrument, one that doesn’t ask for anything other than to be played.
